A Second Favorite Thing...
Since nothing fun happened again today, it's time for another favorite thing. I know my sister Brooke is anxious to know where she fits into the list but just so she knows, these things are not ranked in any certain order, I love them all the same!! :) And as far as I can tell (me being the completely computer illiterate person that I am) if you click on the pictures it will make them bigger, or at least it does for me. So in case you can't quite see something, you could try it. I am sure I'm not the only computer loser out there...or am I???
I LOVE ALIAS!!!!! You knew this one was coming!! :) It is hands down my favorite tv show ever!! And I have some close runners up that are amazing too!! But for now, we will discuss ALIAS. Why, you might ask, do I love it? I can't really explain it but I just do. It was created by JJ Abrams who had previously created Felicity and I was so excited when I saw the commercial for it. Once I saw that Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan were in it, I was sold! I watched every episode with the exception of one. (Tim taped it for me when I went to Missouri with my parents to pick up Brooke from her mission. See how much I love you Brooke?!?! :) ) I used to put my kids to bed early on the nights it was on just so that I could watch it in peace. I loved the idea that she was a girl who could take care of herself and she was tougher than most of the guys in the show. But even with that she was sensitive and needy and she longed to be loved, which was something she had grown up without. The cast was made up of some amazing actors and actresses and I loved every single story line, even if at the time I was screaming at the screen because I didn't like what was happening. :) It had 5 wonderful seasons and I will forever miss it, even though I can still see it whenever I want thanks to the miracle invention of the DVD! The costumes were brilliant! The wigs were even better!! And the love story was well worth the ride. I cried when it ended, but I always remember the pilot episode that aired without commercials for an hour and 8 minutes... Genius!!!

My first favorite thing...
Well, since nothing too exciting happened today - other than school and that's never very exciting, although I did finally get all of my books :) - I decided that I would start talking about some of my favorite things. There is a long list and most of them will probably make you say "What is she thinking?" but I love them and I guess that's what's important! :) But at least you'll get to know a little more about me, and maybe even find out something you didn't know!
My first favorite thing is architecture! I love a beautiful building!! And there have been some truely amazing architects over the years. When we were at Legoland I was most excited about their Miniland, and even more so when I saw 2 of the buildings! The first is the Guggenheim Museum that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Many Arizonan's know about him because there is a street named after him, or because he lived in Phoenix and ran a school there, but that was all in his later life. He was a ground-breaking architect who really turned the world of architecture upside down! He has many beautiful buildings but the Guggenheim is probably one of his best known. Here it is, in all it's Lego Block glory! :)

Next is the Sydney Opera House. It was designed by Jorn Utzon, a Danish architect who, up until the time this building was built, had never had any of his other designs actually constructed. The building process was very long and very expensive but a beautiful building came from it. This building is now pretty much the symbol of Sydney, and even the Lego version was really fun to see!

But my favorite architect is a Canadian born man named Frank Gehry. He is kind of a Jack-of-All-Trades in the sense that he does many other things besides being an architect. He is very unconventional in his design process and even more so in his designs. He's probably best known for the Guggenehim Bilboa in Bilboa, Spain, or for the Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A. But my favorite building of his is a little office building in Prague, called "Fred and Ginger," or "The Dancing House." I love the whimsy of it and the fact that it is something so common, yet it doesn't look like what it actually is. Who, other than Frank Gehry, would have thought to create a building to look like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers? It's genius!!

Great building are everywhere, we just have to take the time to notice them. That is one reason I am glad to have taken all the school classes I have. At first I thought "Who cares about these buildings? And this furniture, it's from a hundred years ago! So what?!" But now I appreciate it and I find myself loving it more every day! It's surely one of the things I love most!!!

California Vacation!!

Legoland was fun, the kids enjoyed it. I especially liked the Mini-Land minitures, they were amazing! Looking back, if we had known about the sickness that was coming, we would have opted for Sea World. But now we have seen Legoland so next time we make a trip to the coast we will just hang at the beach!

The kids really loved all the fun rides at Legoland. We even rode on a few rollercoasters! Jillen and I rode on one that Tim and Jorden wouldn't even ride on! Girl Power!!! :) And luckily for Jorden as the end of the day we found the "Build Your Own Racecar" part of the park. That was right up his alley!
Oceanside was great, so laid back and nice. And it helped that our hotel was a mile from the beach. Although the hotel room was seriously the smallest hotel room we have ever stayed in! That part we would probably do differently. Squeezing 6 people into a hotel room/bathroom/closet that was smaller than our living room was not a fun experience, but I guess we can look at is as family bonding time! :)
