Here He Comes, Here Comes Speed Racer...

It's that time of year again.

Can't you hear dad's all over America cursing at their tools, boys complaining that the paint job is not quite right, mom's wishing the words Pinewood and Derby had never been invented? Luckily we didn't have to suffer through too much preparation time this year. It was Jayden's first Derby and he was pretty excited. We didn't have too high of expectations since Jorden's cars never did very well, maybe that's why the approach to it this time was so laid back. Either way, it wasn't to bad an experience, and we might even be able to make it through 2 more years of this! Here's how the day went --

Here's Jayden getting ready to race his car. He's had a hot and cold love afair with Cub Scouts, but at the end of the day he usually likes it. He had been looking forward to this race for weeks, and we were just glad he didn't completely ruin his car before it finally got here! :P

Here is his car, in the left lane, winning it's heat. Jayden is the one farthest to the right cheering it on!

Here is the little blue car at the finish line. Yeah, a mom with a faster camera probably would have gotten the picture before the other car caught up... Oh well! :P He had this cool little engine thing that fit on the car but he glued it on upside down. I can not even begin to say how much it was bugging me and how much I wanted to rip it off and fix it, but it was his car and as long as he was happy, well, he was happy... :)

And at the end of the race, he had only lost one run!! He got 2nd place!! o_O What?!?! We never imagined that was possible for us!! But he was sure excited!!!

Here he is along with the 1st and 3rd place boys. Don't ask what's with the miss matched gloves. I was just glad he was fully dressed with shoes on! :D

Here he is with his certificate and the hat and water bottle he got as a prize. They sure decorated everything up so cute! All the racing stuff made the boys really excited. And the fact that it was so laid back and easy going made it really fun. The whole thing was just about letting the boys have fun and race each other. That was all that mattered!! It was great!!!

Oh, and what do little sisters do once they've reached their racing limit? Start dismantling the decorations... Um, who's child is that??? :)
