Reason #5 – Alice

Aside from Edward and Bella, I think my favorite character is Alice. I don’t think I’m alone in that opinion. I love Jasper and Emmett and all the rest of the Cullen family, and I even have a soft spot in my heart for Jacob, but Alice is just a force of nature!

Alice joined the Cullen family after being turned into a vampire by an older vampire who worked in the asylum Alice had been placed in. As a human, her family thought she was crazy because she saw visions of the future. James, the vampire who later comes after Bella, saw her and since her blood smelled almost irresistible to him, kind of like how Bella’s blood ‘sings’ to Edward, he decided to kill Alice. The old vampire was in love with Alice and saved her the only way he knew how – by changing her into a vampire. James then killed the older vampire and Alice was left on her own. Her first vision after her transformation was of Jasper and then of the Cullen family. She knew that that was where her life was heading. Alice has a special gift. Much like Edward’s ability to read people’s minds, or Jasper’s ability to sense people’s emotion, Alice is able to see the future. She can only see the path that someone’s life will take after they have made a decision that will lead them to it. Because of this her visions are very subjective and can change in an instant, but the Cullen family depends on her ability. Alice is Edward’s favorite sister and she quickly becomes Bella’s best friend. She is funny and sincere and loving and just a wonderful friend and sister to everyone. Bella worries about Alice because she is so small, pixie-like is how Bella describes her, but as we quickly see, Alice can more than take care of herself. I can’t imagine how different the story would be without Alice. It wouldn’t be much of a story at all, actually. Alice really comes to life in the following books, but we will have to wait for those to discuss the awesomeness that she brings about. Oh, I can’t wait for a certain car scene in New Moon and one of her most commonly quoted phrases – “How strongly are you opposed to grand theft auto?” Oh Alice, you rock!!!

Alice in action! This is a scene from the movie when Alice and Jasper have taken Bella to hide her from James. Alice see's the room where James is, and she later see's James attacking Bella, but she can't figure out what goes wrong. Here is Alice in action as Jasper tries to help.


The Cullen kids. This is one of the first cast pictures as they were trying to figure out the hair and make-up for everyone. They decided to make a few changes but Alice stayed pretty much the same.


Alice is played by Ashley Greene. Here she is with Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper. She's such a pretty girl and looks so totally different in her real life. But then so does Jackson. Wouldn't they be cute as a couple... Maybe after a few more sequels they will come to that conclusion too! :D
